Hats Off! to Peter Makuck whose short-story collection Wins and Losses was a December "Read of the Month" and favorably reviewed in Southern Literary Review. "Makuck gets under the skins of his characters so that the reader understands why they are acting the way they are, though the protagonists themselves may not realize why," writes reviewer Brendan Galvin. "This constitutes a deep understanding of the human condition as it exists in today’s America, so often tinged with narcissism and permanent immaturity, and in part explains why Makuck has been compared to such fiction masters as John Cheever and John Updike, among others."

Hats Off! to Joan Leotta whose poem "Sunrise at the Beach" appears in The GHAZAL Page. Also, two of her poems, "Bursa Ipek" and "Cat Scarf," appear in Cargo Literary Magazine, and Paw Prints in Verse will reprint "Cat Scarf" in their March, 2017, anthology. In addition, Righter Publications has printed a great review of Joan's forthcoming poetry chapbook, Languid Lusciousness with Lemon, and several poems of hers—including a humorous one, "Count to Ten." "Moo-ving," a pastoral parody, has been published on a British humor website, The Short Humour Site, and her flash mystery "Trading Up" will see the light of day in July, 2017, on The Story Shack.

Hats Off! to Billie Hinton whose essay "The Great Height and the Long View" appears in the November issue of Literary Mama.  "I was nurturing the young writer my daughter was becoming," she says, "but I was also learning how to nurture the young writer in myself."
