Thirst for Political News Down After Election
Americans became smitten with the high drama of the presidential election, but the transition of power is proving less than sexy. Ratings for cable TV news and the number of visits to news Web sites built for weeks and then peaked on Election Day, giving the electronic media some of their biggest audiences in years. But since then, TV ratings and online traffic have fallen.
C-SPAN’s Lamb Says Web is News Future
Brian Lamb sees “the handwriting on the wall” for the cable network he founded, C-SPAN, as well as the rest of television news—and it’s called the Internet. “[President-elect] Barack Obama has already started it,” he said, by shifting from a weekly radio address to a weekly video address posted to YouTube.
AP Could Lose 10% of Staff By End of 2009
Associated Press President and CEO Tom Curley told a group of employees today that the AP could lose up to 10% of its staff by the end of 2009, but likely through attrition not layoffs. AP spokesman Paul Colford confirmed that Curley had made such comments during an employee town hall meeting today, adding that "he was met with applause at the end of the meeting."

Roger Ailes Renews News Corp. Contract
Roger Ailes, the mastermind of the Fox News Channel, has received a new five-year contract with the News Corporation, the company announced Thursday. Ailes is the chairman and chief executive of Fox News, the nation’s most-watched news channel.
PC Magazine Goes 100 Percent Digital
Tech media company Ziff Davis announced Wednesday that it will fold its 26-year-old print publication PC Magazine, with its final edition slated for January. The magazine moved from bi-weekly to monthly earlier this year and a New York judge recently approved a reorganization plan for Ziff Davis to emerge from its bankruptcy protection.
