Open Mic at Barnes & Noble

Posted by: cagosta on 08/29/2008 10:08 PM
On Tuesday, September 9th, I will be hosting an Open Mic event at the Barnes & Noble bookstore at Birkdale Shopping Center in Huntersville, NC at 7:30 pm. My long-time friend and writing teacher Barbara Kidd Lawing usually hosts these evenings but she is unable to be there so I'm filling in.

It's my first time hosting, but I've read at these events before and hope many of the local writers will come by and share their work. Please look for me up by the coffee shop. Our featured writer will be Suzanne Baldwin Leitner, who has a small book of poems called String Quilt in print and will have another book out soon -- a collection of short stories called Sessions with a Cheater's Wife. Sounds interesting!!

Cambridge University Press anthology

My short story, "Oral Tradition", has been selected to be published this fall in the Cambridge University Press anthology "Happy Families". This anthology will be used in middle-and-upper-school literature studies throughout the UK. If you'd like to read the story, currently online at East of the Web, click here. Oral Tradition

Wow, my stories are on YouTube!

Two of my stories are now featured on YouTube.com. One is the short film of "Coming to My Senses", directed by Chad Richards. The other is a reading of "After the Wink" done as practice for Oral Interpretation competitions by Justine Lassar. Both videos blow me away and I'm very excited to be able to share them with you via YouTube

Three (Count 'em, Three!) New Stories Published

Posted by: cagosta on 01/02/2008 06:30 PM
A writing friend of mine, David Bulley, challenged me to a duel. We tried to top each other's stories and do it within a very tight time frame. The result was three stories each, all six written in less than a week, and best of all, Tom Dooley, the editor of Eclectica, has published the lot. Check them out here.

About Me

I began writing in 1998 and have written two complete novels and over a hundred short stories and essays. (I've also begun four other novels which, sadly, have been abandoned like excess luggage.) This website contains links to some of these. I hope you'll check them out and enjoy reading them.

I also write a blog. It's better than talking to the walls and my family has already heard all my material. There's a link to this too.

I love to write, I love to chat with other writers, and if you'd like to email me, I love to answer e-mails too. My addy is cagosta@charter.net.
Thanks for stopping by!
