When Denise Privette Sherman graduated from Wake Forest University in 1981, she knew she wanted to write, but didn’t know much else. So while looking for a job, she wrote the first draft of Samantha Salisbury Worthington. She sent the draft to Disney, hoping something would come of it. An editor with Disney named Gary Graf wrote back, saying why it wouldn’t work for Disney, but he also said with work and illustrations it could be a children’s book.
Encouraged, through the years, she made some changes and collaborated with her mother, Betty S. Privette, a watercolorist, to complete this rhyming book about a little girl’s adventures to find self-acceptance. In May of 2002, Ms. Sherman founded Wordsmith Press to publish her book. Through her printer Pacifica Communications, she found Tonya Beach of Tonya Beach Creative Services in Atlanta to design the book.
In Samantha Salisbury Worthington, there’s plenty of humor to keep adults chuckling and amuse children as well. It’s a perfect book for children and adults to read together at bedtime or any time.
