State road upkeep shelved, for now
RALEIGH -- A study group has shelved, for now, the idea of advising the General Assembly to make cities take responsibility for maintaining 5,000 miles of state-owned roads.

CARRBORO -- Shortly before his death in an auto accident, Chapel Hill High School student Rodney Torain called his mother on a cell phone and told her that a car was following him and his friends, harassing them, and he was afraid it would run them off the road.

Oxford votes to keep coverages
OXFORD -- The Oxford City Commission on Tuesday night voted to keep providing health insurance for an ex-mayor and to keep the current chief executive in line for post-retirement coverage, but to ban any other elected city officials from such a policy once they leave office.
