Hats Off! to Dr. Susan Schmidt, whose poem, "If They Came Our Way," has won the 2012 Guy Owen Prize. The poem about the Gettysburg battlefield will appear in the September issue of Southern Poetry Review. The judge was 2012 North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame inductee Kathryn Stripling Byer.

Hat's Off!
Hats Off! to Jan B. Parker, who won Second Place (Prose) in the Pamlico Writers Competition sponsored by the Beaufort County Arts Council. The reception, conference, and awards ceremony were all lovely and highly professional events in a beautiful venue in Washington, NC, Jan's childhood home. Her winning entry included the first chapter of her current novel-in-progress, working title: EmLee. |
