........ to Brenda Kay Ledford. She  spoke on publishing to Nancy Simpson's poetry class at the John
C. Campbell Folk School.  Ledford's poem, "Garden of Life," received second place in
the 2009 Clay County Historical and Arts Council Poetry Contest.  She was judge for
the HEART POETRY AWARD national competition for Nostalgia Press.  Her essay,
"Birthday Present," won a silver medal in the 2009 Cherokee County Silverarts
Literary Contest.  Ledford's story, "Kinfolks and Tall Tales," appeared in THE
JOURNAL OF KENTUCY STUDIES.  Ledford's poem, "Revisit," is upcoming in the Old
Mountain Press anthology, EXIT 109.

Hat's Off!

 

Hats Off! to Rebecca McClanahan, whose tenth book, The Tribal Knot: A Memoir of Family, Community, and a Century of Change, has just been published by Indiana University Press. She also has three new essays in The Sun, Brevity, and Soundings.
