The National Book Award Foundation presents “The Contenders,” a new online exhibition. Similar to our past retrospectives of NBA Fiction and Poetry Winners, the project is a look back at the 373 books that have been nominated for the Award in Fiction since 1950. Visitors can rediscover classics, like Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea and Toni Morrison's Beloved, as well as get to know new titles and authors. The exhibition also includes appreciations of 24 of the Finalists by past 5 Under 35 honorees Kirstin Allio, Matthew Eck, Amity Gaige, Asali Solomon, Josh Weil, Tiphanie Yanique, and Charles Yu.
