Each class will begin with a discussion of a certain writing technique, followed by a workshop to review and help strengthen one another's short stories and/or novel excerpts. The class environment will be thoughtful, supportive, lively, and serious. We'll study voice, humor, structure, and character—the technical decisions we make as writers to achieve certain effects. All students will be expected to participate in discussion. Rosecrans Baldwin is the author most recently of Paris, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down. His debut novel, You Lost Me There, was named one of NPR's Best Books of 2010 and a New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice. He and his wife live in Chapel Hill.
