Master Class with Keith Flynn: This class will focus on the elements that make poetry the last passable wilderness for language, with a variety of strategies and exercises that will make your poetry more muscular and rhythmic, breaking down each sentence its most powerful components, without surrendering the mystery of its ideas. Each participant should bring two poems to be discussed, along with 20 copies of each poem to share with the group. Any poems deemed exemplary will be considered for publication in The Asheville Poetry Review. Flynn, editor of The Asheville Poetry Review, is the author of 5 poetry collections, most recently Colony Collapse Disorder.
Strategies for Generating and Controlling Poems: Jeff Hardin. What if you had, on hand, multiple strategies for producing poems, each one a different “kind” of poem, controlled and developed differently? Poet Jeff Hardin, author of Fall Sanctuary and Notes for a Praise Book, will present an overview of 14 strategies and focus more closely on one or two.
