The Recipe, Have a Seat at Our Table...

by Annette Council
Publisher: NP Press

Ms. Council wrote The Recipe, Have a Seat at Our Table... in 2005 as a challenge of her life’s struggles so that the spirit of God, which has been placed inside of her, would manifest itself.

The Recipe is a personal story about surviving when there is not enough, maintaining when there is just enough, and remembering where she came from when there is more than enough.

Ms. Council was born in 1956 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, born to Joe (Tight Rope) and Mildred (Mama Dip) Council. She was the seventh of eight children, the "knee baby."

My story, The Recipe, is about how I came to live my dream. It contains the challenges and struggles my family endured as we went from "neighborhood bonding" to building successful enterprises in our community. My grandparent’s were Daddy and Mama’s guide; in turn they were my guide along with my brothers and sisters. Now as we look back we all are amazed at what was made possible. In creating The Recipe, I have included what I consider my family’s list of ingredients for growth. My story, The Recipe, is about our family of eight children, a cousin who became my brother, a Mama with a dream, and a Daddy with the heart to hustle who was around for as long as he could endure.
