Sunday's Child by Tom Lewis Publisher: VP Publishing, LLC ISBN: 0-9705793-1-4 $14.95 Sunday's Child is the first of a series of three books comprising the riveting Pea Island Gold trilogy.
Born to a white prostitute and a black prizefighting drifter. Raised on an island by tough, courageous men. Controlled by no one but herself... Sunday Everette has a childhood unlike any other in the "Jim Crow" era of the South, growing up at the Pea Island Life-Saving Station among the barren dunes of North Carolina's stormy Outer Banks. In sheltered isolation, guided solely by the influence of the Station's heroic all-black crewmen, she blossoms into a strong and beautiful young woman with a spirit to match. But Sunday's secluded paradise cannot last. Her calm, simple days by the sea must inevitably give way to the fast-approaching storms of life. Unexpectedly, those darkening skies bring with them an unlikely mix of forbidden love, murder, and revenge-along with a Nazi submarine carrying millions of dollars in gold stolen from Hitler's Third Reich. First in a trilogy, Sunday's Child begins the saga of three unique families from across the world, flung fatally together by three of mankind's most basic traits: war, love, and greed. Come, enjoy the truly fascinating life of Sunday Everette. For more information on Sunday's Child and Tom Lewis, please visit www.tomelewis.com |

I craned my head around the corner and pulled back again. There was someone there. I inhaled deeply and swung my body around into the room, coming face-to-face with my own image in the mirror. The hair on my body bristled .... When the lifeless body of millionaire Rick Teater is discovered, no one suspects he was beaten to death with a sock, least of all inexperienced Logan Hunter, an intern for the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. But the high-profile crime scene-and the need to prove herself-propel her to embark on a quest for justice. During the investigation, she befriends Pepper Ellis, the victim's chef, and the two form an emotional attachment, something Logan does not expect. After several intense searches, complicated by a hurricane and a recurring nightmare, Logan finds the body of her prime suspect, Lincoln Tumu. Her investigation comes to a frustrating standstill. Trying to cope with demons of her own, Logan begins to unravel the tightly woven plan that implicated Tumu and discovers she pursued the wrong person from the beginning. Now she suspects the one she counted on for guidance has been deceiving her all along. The book is available at local bookstores or from the author's website at www.swhitfield.com |

The Recipe, Have a Seat at Our Table... by Annette Council Publisher: NP Press Ms. Council wrote The Recipe, Have a Seat at Our Table... in 2005 as a challenge of her life’s struggles so that the spirit of God, which has been placed inside of her, would manifest itself.
The Recipe is a personal story about surviving when there is not enough, maintaining when there is just enough, and remembering where she came from when there is more than enough. Ms. Council was born in 1956 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, born to Joe (Tight Rope) and Mildred (Mama Dip) Council. She was the seventh of eight children, the "knee baby." My story, The Recipe, is about how I came to live my dream. It contains the challenges and struggles my family endured as we went from "neighborhood bonding" to building successful enterprises in our community. My grandparent’s were Daddy and Mama’s guide; in turn they were my guide along with my brothers and sisters. Now as we look back we all are amazed at what was made possible. In creating The Recipe, I have included what I consider my family’s list of ingredients for growth. My story, The Recipe, is about our family of eight children, a cousin who became my brother, a Mama with a dream, and a Daddy with the heart to hustle who was around for as long as he could endure. ISBN: 0-9773959-1-X "Annette has with deep affection brought out the joy and the extraordinary accomplishments of her mother, Mildred "Mama Dip" Council -- a long-time dear friend -- whose well-deserved success in overcoming great hardship has lead to a great career and family." --- Roland Giduz, Chapel Hill native and author of "The Oracle of Chapel Hill"
