Residency includes 5 workshop sessions to generate new writing, evening programs, one-on-one critique, an introduction to the Amherst Writers & Artists teaching method, room and board on the lovely Peace College campus, and Internet access for your laptop via your modem and in-room phone lines.

Pat Schneider is a world-renowned teacher in the workshop format.

This workshop is an extraordinary opportunity at a discounted price.

Beginning writers in Schneiders groups grow in confidence and start to feel ready to offer their writing to the world.

Experienced writers find after working with her that they can more readily catch the cadence of their creativity, producing more, trying new forms, taking risks as they move deeper into the territory. See Ms. Schneiders website for more details of her working method: www.patschneider.com.

Teachers enrolled in the Full Residency are also enrolled in the Teachers-Only Workshop if they indicate on their registration form that they would like to attend the workshop.

Teachers-Only Workshop

New this year!
Special Teachers-Only Pat Schneider Workshop

Sunday, July 9, 2006, 1 - 5 pm
Peace College Campus, Raleigh, NC

$60

For workshop teachers, public school teachers of all grades, and those who teach low-income writers. This is a separate program, but is available as a free bonus to any Full Residency Participant who is also a teacher.

Ms. Schneider will present a film that talks about using her methods of teaching young people from preschool to high school. Tested at the Connecticut Writing Center at University of Connecticut, these methods have been used by primary, middle, and high school teachers. The focus is on the creative writing process, and on helping the teachers to understand it by thinking about their own writing.

Ms. Schneider is the Elizabeth Daniels Squire Fellow for our Summer Residency, thanks to the generous support of the Triangle Community Foundation and the Daniels family.

Pat Schneider is the founder and Director Emeritus of Amherst Writers & Artists. She has published widely in literary journals and magazines, including Sewanee Review, Ms. Magazine, and Negative Capability. In addition, she has published two books on writing, most recently Writing Alone and With Others, and has edited a collection of the writings of women in low-income housing projects, In Our Own Voices.
