Randall Jarrell/Harperprints Poetry Chapbook Competition

2007 Competition Winner

David E. Poston of Gastonia, NC, is the winner of the 2007 Randall Jarrell/Harperprints Poetry chapbook competition. Poston received a $200 cash prize, chapbook publication for his manuscript, Postmodern Bourgeois Poetaster Blues, and a reading/reception.

Conor O’Callaghan, professor of poetry at Wake Forest University, said about Poston’s poetry, "I was really blown away by the collection's formal variety. We get sonnets, a prose poem and a cento. Even this author's free verse bristles with the innate memory of the meter from which it has been liberated...more than anything, this poet understands that poetry is primarily an experience of language, and uses words as if they were grains of sand pouring though his/her fingers."
