All-Day Workshops: Spring Conference 2007 Saturday, June 2
To register for an all-day workshop, choose between the workshops listed below.
The workshop will meet in the morning, and then resume after lunch.
ALL-DAY MEMOIR WORKSHOP, with Marianne Gingher
Part 1 - 9:00 - 11:00 am
Part 2 - 2:00 - 4:00 pm
If you had a childhood you've accumulated enough material to inspire a
lifetime of writing. How can you enliven the truth without compromising
it? How can you make it interesting on the page? And what about ordinary
rather than sensational truths? Can they ever be one in the same? This
workshop will offer useful prompts and advice on selecting and
dramatizing truths worth telling. Emphasis will be on borrowing the
tricks of the fiction writer and employing them as a memoirist without
sacrificing the writer's accountability to facts.
Workshoppers should attend both sessions.
ALL-DAY FICTION WORKSHOP: FICTION WORKOUT, with Quinn Dalton
Part 1 - 9:00 - 11:00 am
Part 2 - 2:00 - 4:00 pm
This double session will feature a series of fiction "workouts' focusing
on common problem areas in fiction, such as point of view, dialog, and
scene development. The workshop will be structured so that participants
can use the workouts to generate new work, or to apply to in-progress
projects-a stories or novel chapters. Participants will leave with tools
to assess problems in future work, as well as strategies to address
them. Bring a 10-page sample of your work if you like, and come prepared
to write!
Workshoppers should attend both sessions.
