The 2005 Writing Courses are over, but this course information is on the site so that you can see what courses we have sponsored in the past.

EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY, with Maureen Ryan Griffin

  • Saturday, September 10, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm (7 hours of instruction)
  • Meets at the Network Library and Resource Center
  • Bring food for a working lunch -- the workshop does not break for lunch
  • Limit: 12 participants
  • $85 Network members / $115 non-members

In this one-day workshop we will explore the use of visual images as a means to create powerful fiction, non-fiction, and/or poetry. We’ll look at ways successful writers have used images to inspire their works, including Sue Monk Kidd’s The Secret Life of Bees. We'll experiment with different writing methods, using images as springboards. Participants are encouraged to bring images of their own they would like to work with, especially photographs. A wide variety of images will be provided as well. You’ll take home drafts of essays, memoir, poems, and/or fiction and facility with the playful and profound magic of using images to jumpstart your writing.
