Spring 2005 Writing CoursesNOVEL IN PROGRESS, with Lynn YorkThe 2005 Writing Courses are over, but this course information is on the site so that you can see what courses we have sponsored in the past.
This is the course for those people who have stopped talking about that novel they want to write and started writing it. Whether you have a full first draft, several chapters, or just a short story that refuses to come to an end, this is your chance to check in with fellow writers who are laboring along the same path. We will work together in a workshop format to discuss short excerpts submitted by participants. We will use this work to help focus our discussions concerning language, plot, structure, and characterization. Participants should bring 10 copies of their novel excerpt (between 20 and 50 double-spaced pages) to the first class. Lynn York has been a Writer-in-Residence at Brush Creek Writers' Workshop. She leads craft discussion groups and offers as well as one-on-one critiques. She is a Workshop facilitator and craft lecturer for a private Hillsborough writing group. Participants included published writers, journalists, and MFA candidates. She does ongoing work with numerous local writers, critiquing their manuscripts and shepherding them through the publication process. Her recent novel, The Piano Teacher, was excerpted in the Raleigh News and Observer, and is in its sixth printing. |
