The purpose of The Book 'Em Foundation and this event is to raise public awareness of the link between high crime rates and high illiteracy rates. Proceeds from the Book 'Em North Carolina book fairs go directly to increasing literacy in Robeson County and to reducing crime in the area. Book'Em North Carolina brings together authors under one roof to speak on a variety of subjects. Headliners for the 2013 event will be announced soon. They will join more than more than 75 authors total. Authors will also sell and sign their books throughout the day while scheduled workshops will go on during the event. Publishers and authors pledge a portion of the proceeds raised from sales (a minimum of 40 percent) for Robeson County and Lumberton for the express purpose of increasing literacy and reducing crime.
