Poetry can be one of the most rewarding and frustrating literary forms for both readers and writers. In this class, suitable for novices as well as active practitioners of poetry, we will look at how to read poetry, and how to write it. How do you understand what the poet is attempting to say? How can you learn to draw on your own knowledge and intelligence when looking at a poem? Writing activities will be designed to help each person develop their own unique voice, while learning to use the tools of image, line, rhythm, music and compression. Who knows? We may even attend, or host, an open mic. Richard Krawiec has published two widely-praised books of poetry. He is the founder of Jacar Press, which publishes poetry chapbooks, collections, and anthologies, featuring some of the finest poets in North Carolina and the United States.
