Cost: $50 Stories often fail because they are flat. While the surface story may be competently plotted, structured, and written, there is nothing beneath the surface to hold the reader’s attention. The story lacks depth and weight. While story writers should not burden their work with lessons or morals, the most successful stories do work on multiple levels, conveying thematic meaning—aboutness—in addition to the story itself. This workshop will examine the aboutness of several well-known stories. Participants will explore strategies for creating meaningful depth in their own work. Led by Clifford Garstang, author of What the Zhang Boys Know. |
