As announced in August, we have chosen Ellyn Bache’s book, The Art of Saying Goodbye, as the book to lead off our first Writers Read event. The goal is to choose a book by a Wilmington or North Carolina author for an in-depth discussion of the craft of fiction writing. In this first choice, we will look at the art of writing the novel with the following in mind: characterization, show vs. tell, pacing, plot, dialogue, theme, POV, structure and voice. In order to get the most out of our discussion, it would be ideal to read the book, but it’s not required to attend the meeting. Discussion topics will be led by members of the Sea Quills Writing Group. A North Carolina Writers’ Network event.
