Phillip Shabazz, author, will conduct a workshop that will explore several aspects of imagery, including works from other poets as examples. The workshop includes: writing prompts, sample poems, a list of terms relative to different types of imagery in poetry, writing activities, discussion, and feedback. You will work from a list of prompts, as well as a list of words that are in contrast to each other; then utilize the prompts and word lists to compose lyric or narrative free verse poems. You will have the opportunity to write a first draft, and also read aloud and share poems during the workshop. We'll talk about line, metaphor, sound, structure, and surprise, with the aim of opening up possibilities for the work at hand. Bring copies of two poems (limit each poem to 32 lines) you are working on and ready to take to the next level.
