Jasper Johns said of his iconic work Flag: "Using this design took care of a great deal for me because I didn't have to design it…That gave me room to work on other levels." In poetry, structure and limits can have the same liberating effect on the imagination. Participants in this class will be presented with limit-based exercises that are helpful in writing new poems and model-based exercises that argue for literature as a source from which our creativity can draw. |
