I'm glad you passed along the notice of Linda's winning the $50,000 Jackson Poetry Prize. I met Linda in 1986 when she was a featured visiting poet at the Midnight Sun Writers' Conference at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, where I was then teaching/living. She is a dear friend and colleague, and we re-unite (I returned South) every time she is in residence at UNC-G, Elon, UNC-G again, etc. What I am hoping is that the Network could sponsor her as a poet in residence, maybe in conjunction with one or some of the nearby universities (UNC,Duke,UNC-G, NC State, for instance.) Could something like this be possible? Her keynote Poetry Reading at last year's Spring Conference was so very fine, indicative of her power as a poet and teacher. Lots of people would be glad to experience her poetry and guidance again, and those new to her and her work would gain some very rich insight into poetry, both as writers and readers of the art. I'm just sayin... that I LOVE this idea. What do you think?
