Maybe I’m just some kind of conservative dinosaur, but a monopoly of Amazon’s sort seems like such a barrier to anyone concerned with writing as art and craft (as opposed to pure materialism). It’s hard enough now that publishers can’t even afford “midlists” and fear investing in anything that doesn’t look like making an enormous financial splash. But does anyone have an answer to how to make way against them?
