Why We Do What We Do

NCWN member Glenda Council Beall wrote a touching and inspirational blog post on Wednesday at My Name Is Not Bob, the blog of poet Robert Lee Brewer. Glenda recounts how when she first began her writing journey, it was poet Nancy Simpson and NetWest who reached out and validated her for the first time:

“Nancy Simpson’s phone call and welcome to NCWN completely turned my life around. She was the first person to validate my writing. ‘Yes,’ she told me when I handed her some verses on paper, ‘This is a poem.’”

Not only is it inspiring to read about how someone’s life was changed through writing, but this post meant a lot to us here at the Network as well. It reminded us that this is why we do what we do. This, in the end, is what it’s all about: from the board members and staff, to the volunteers and faculty, to each and every individual member. We’re a “Network” in the truest sense.
