The idea of holding meetings in different parts of NC is great, but some of the locations are too far away. I live in northeastern NC, about 60 miles west of Elizabeth City. I could not find anyone who could attend last night's meeting with me. Will the Arts Council hold meetings in any other parts of the state later this summer or in the fall? I think some folks here in Hertford County would be interested, if it could be held here.

I am hosting a writers group in Macon County called The Wordsmiths of Macon. We meet every other month at my writers cottage in Franklin. The next meeting will be Great Oak Drive at six o'clock. A small organic meal will be served and we want to write about the local fruit stands in Macon County. Please help us get these poems and essays published. The people are eager to hear about good things happening in their neighborhood. The local organized groups have been negative to us as we wanted to sponsor a poetry contest about the Celtic peoples at the Tartan Festival but they complained of no money for prizes. I then offered to do it if they would at least get the poems published in the local papers, but no dice....Shirley Marie Cole

As a veteran (and aspiring poet), I enjoyed this very much. Reminds me of all the hub-bub about the red cockaded woodpecker on Ft. Bragg in the 1990s, an endangered population I gather they managed successfully over time (see http://www.army.mil/article/37653/fort-braggs-award-is-for-the-birds/). I can only imagine what the artillerymen have to say about this one. ;-)
