The Network’s Mission

The North Carolina Writers’ Network creates and nurtures community for those who care about writing, because good writing is vital to our wider community.

We believe that writing can connect people across time, distance, and difference; that writing with integrity is necessary for civic discourse and a healthy society; and that the deeply satisfying experiences of writing and reading should be available to everyone.

The North Carolina Writers’ Network connects, promotes, and serves the writers of this state. We provide education in the craft and business of writing, opportunities for recognition and critique of literary work, resources for writers at all stages of development, support for and advocacy of the literary heritage of North Carolina, and a community for those who write.

The North Carolina Writers’ Network is an anti-racist organization committed to serving all North Carolina writers. We are, therefore, committed to being equitable, inclusive, accessible, and representative of the diversity of North Carolina writers, and we hold this commitment as fundamental to and inseparable from our mission.

The Network’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

Everyone has a story to tell. Our mission is to help you tell yours.

The North Carolina Writers Network celebrates the storytellers among us. Our strength is in the diversity of our members, the many different stories they have, and the many ways they choose to tell them. We are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming community for writers of every race, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, identity, and experience. We work hard to make our programs and services accessible to everyone. We seek to be an organization representative of anyone interested in creative writing and inclusive literary community. We know a few well-written words have the power to change lives. We stand as advocates and defenders when our writers’ freedom of expression is infringed upon or censored.

Stories grow stronger in the telling. We want you to tell yours.
