Community Conversation & Reading: Persona, Vulnerability & Magic – with John Amen and Chad Weeden | Mecklenburg

May 21 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

A literary persona is the speaker of a work, the person or character who is in essence communicating the text. In this sense, persona is part and parcel of written expression. Poets, in particular, don’t tend to have a scripted persona; rather, unconscious leanings intermingle with experiences, observations, and imaginings, resulting in what might be called an energetic signature. Persona is organic. Additionally, a persona doesn’t necessarily resemble a writer’s personality any more than vulnerable writing has to be autobiographical. Persona and who a writer is or who they think they are or who other people think they are might be miles apart!

We’ll discuss these matters loosely, share a variety of poems, and welcome comments from the audience.

Free, but registration is required.
