Georgia Mountain Press Editor and Wife to Speak at Moss Memorial Library | Hayesville

August 9 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Georgia Mountain Press Editor and Wife to Speak August 9 at Moss Memorial Library

If you enjoy the company of fearless adventurers with a sense of humor, join us Wednesday, August 9, at Moss Memorial Library!

Tom Davis is a writer and has been publisher of the Old Mountain Press since 1992.  He is also a 30 year veteran who served with Special Forces (Green Berets!) on four continents and 10 countries which included three combat zones (Vietnam, Bosnia, and Turkey/Iraq). Tom’s memoir covers it all.  His wife Polly is a writer, author, college professor, mother of two, and world traveler. Polly has seen and done it all from skydiving to SCUBA  diving, never cutting slack for herself as she follows her Green Beret husband with her children across the planet.

Polly and Tom will read a few sentences from their humorous memoirs He Said She Said. It’s a HOOT 🙂

Stumbling Toward Enlightenment: A Wife’s Thirty-year Journey with her Green Beret

Polly was married to a Special Forces soldier during the height of the Vietnam War.  She was a soldier’s wife with a difference: she often led, always followed, and sometimes fought alongside her Green Beret.  Whether leaping out of airplanes, SCUBA diving off the coast of Massachusetts, hauling her family and their dogs over two continents, or battling a life-threatening disease, Davis’ life story is superbly rich with courage, compassion, and a sly humor that overcomes all obstacles. Failure is not an option with this warm and enticing tale.

The Most Fun I Ever Had With My Clothes On: A March from Private to Colonel

In his memoir, COL (Ret) Tom Davis relates his experiences during the thirty-one years spent in the US Army, rising through the ranks from private to full colonel.
Twenty of those years he served with US Army Special Forces (Green Berets).  His memoir chronicles his time in three combat zones.  Included are his experiences commanding Special Forces Operational A Detachments which specialized in Underwater Operations, High Altitude Low Opening Parachuting, Mountaineering, and Small Atomic Demolitions and other worldwide assignments.

The well known Old Mountain Press has assisted several hundred writers self-publish their work.  For just a few of these issues, contact http://www.oldmp.com
Tom and Polly’s Memoirs are also available on this site.

Coffee With the Poets and Writers meets every second Wednesday from March until December 2023. This event is free and open to the public.  An open mike will follow the presentation.  Please bring a poem or short prose piece of about three minutes to participate.  CWPS is sponsored by North Carolina Writers Network West (NCWN-W) which also includes writers in Towns, Union, Fannin and Rabun Counties in Georgia. Please do not park in the Bookstore parking lot. For further information, please contact joanhoward121@gmail.com
