Burning Coal Theatre Company is thrilled to announce our upcoming theatrical presentation, “OR,” presented by Switchyard Theatre, a mesmerizing play that explores the intersection of history, imagination, and the power of words. This innovative production invites audiences on a journey through time, where the lines between fact and fiction blur, and where the past and the present coexist in a harmonious and enlightening manner.
“OR,” intertwines historical events and figures with fictional characters and narratives, creating a dynamic tapestry that celebrates the beauty of storytelling and its ability to illuminate our collective past. “OR,” tells the story of Aphra Behn, ex-British spy, who will have fame and glory as England’s first female playwright if she can just finish her play by sunrise. But between her handsome patron King Charles II, free-spirited actress Nell Gwynne, and double agent William Scott – who may or may not be trying to murder the king – how can she possibly concentrate? Free love, politics and historical fiction abound in this door-slamming Restoration farce, that tells the true(ish) story of a night in the life of the literal first lady of the stage.
