Susan Schmidt Poetry Launch | Beaufort

In Susan Schmidt’s third poetry book “Drought Drought Torrential, ” she celebrates neighbors in Beaufort—dolphins, clouds, egrets, ibis, , terns, willets, black skimmers, oystercatchers, herons. She swims, paddles, rows, sails, walks beaches with her Boykin Spaniel Pippa. As scientist and poet, sailboat captain, Quaker naturalist—Susan witnesses coastal diversity and resilience, threatened by sea level rise, King Tides, . During the Pandemic, Susan weeded gardens at NC Maritime Museum and kayaked weekly to survey shorebirds on Rachel Carson Preserve.
