Upcoming: A panel, The Hell’s Angels’ Letters & The Origins of Gonzo, at the Gonzo Fest in Louisville, KY, July 14, 2023, in which the world’s leading Hunter S. Thompson scholars will discuss and debate old and new views of Hunter’s life, work, and the origins of Gonzo.
At the center of the panel is the book The ‘Hell’s Angels’ Letters: Hunter S. Thompson, Margaret Harrell and the Making of an American Classic by Margaret Harrell, in collaboration with Ron Whitehead, US Lifetime Beat Poet Laureate (Norfolk Press).
Moderating is Tim Denevi (Freak Kingdom), a professor in the MFA program at George Mason University. On the panel with Margaret are William McKeen, a professor and the former Chair of the Department of Journalism at Boston University; he is the author or editor of thirteen successful books, including Outlaw Journalist and Mile Marker Zero,
Also, Dr. John F. Brick, who teaches English, first-year rhetoric, and creative writing at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Peter Richardson, who teaches Humanities and American Studies at San Francisco State University. His publications include critically acclaimed books about Hunter S. Thompson, the Grateful Dead, Ramparts magazine, and Carey McWilliams.
