Writing the Novel for Orange County Residents Who Identify as Marginalized and/or Under-represented

August 17 @ 11:00 am - September 21 @ 1:00 pm

Thanks to a generous grant from the Orange County Arts Commission, we are offering a free-to-participants Writing the Novel class in Chapel Hill (exact location coming soon!) during our Aug-Sept 2023 round. Here are the details:

Description: This is a craft and workshop hybrid class for students who are interested in learning more about writing novels. Discussions will include short story pacing versus novel pacing; identifying whether an idea is better suited for a novel or a short story; coming up with ideas for novels; the essential elements of a novel; outlining novels; and more. We will read and discuss two short novels in this course, and by the end of the course, all students will have written, workshopped, and polished a first chapter of a novel, and will leave the course with a roadmap for how to complete their book.

Instructor: Emily Cataneo

Dates: Begins Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023 and runs every Thursday for six weeks

Location: coming soon

Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

8 seats max

Who is eligible? This class is intended for Orange County residents who identify as marginalized and/or under-represented, which can mean that you identify as low-income, queer/genderqueer, and/or BIPOC.
