NC Literary Hall of Fame



Hats Off! to the many NCWN members who were honored in the Western NC Regional Poetry Competition sponsored by the Caldwell Arts Council. NCWN Regional Rep for Jackson County, Catherine Carter of Cullowhee, won First Place and $500 for her poem “When you tell me I’m being racist." NCWN Regional Rep for Swain County, Benjamin Cutler of Whittier, won Third Place and $150 for his poem “The River at World’s End.” Joyce Compton Brown of Troutman won Fifth Place and $75 for her poem "Figs." Honorable mentions included “Nocturnal Howl Before Compline” by Jenny Bates of Germanton; “Old Barn” by Les Brown of Troutman; “Prayer for a New Trail” by Bill Griffin of Elkin; and “Bluegills Take Part in the Creation of the World” by Carter and “September Sunset” by Cutler. Honorable mentions win $25. The final judge was Kari Gunter-Seymour, Poet Laureate of Ohio. The winners will read their works during a live Zoom presentation on Thursday, October 22 at 7:00 pm.
