Columbia University Press: Assistant Editor

Responsible for providing general administrative support in acquisition, development, transmittal, and publication for the senior editors responsible for Asian Studies and Literature in Translation and American History and Politics and Social Work respectively.

Responsibilities Include:
● Track peer review of proposals and manuscripts
● Manage payment of honoraria and royalty advances
● Solicit book endorsements
● Compile editorial memos
● Prepare profit-and-loss statements
● Prepare contracts for publishing agreements
● Prepare manuscripts for production
● Provide author administrative support for contracted authors
● Attend internal meetings with editorial, marketing, and production
● Distribute complimentary copies to authors, agents, peer reviewers
● Apply for and manage publication and translation grants for individual books as needed

Additional Responsibilities May Include:
● Read and evaluate proposals on request
● Present projects at editorial committees and sales conferences
● Draft and edit internal pitch memos on request
● Attend conferences in subject areas as a representative of the Press on request
● Provide administrative and editorial support for the Press’s partner series with Columbia
University and Howard University: Black Lives in the Diaspora: Past / Present / Future
