Applications are open for a one or two-week residency in 2024 at the Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities in Southern Pines.
Weymouth Center was the home of novelist James Boyd and family and was the first program established at Weymouth. North Carolina Poet Laureate Sam Ragan established the Writers-in-Residence program to support NC writers and writers with ties to NC. Open to North Carolina natives, current residents, or to those with significant ties to the state, the program has nurtured and inspired hundreds of writers over the years.
The residency program provides up to four rooms for writers to spend a week or two each year away from the demands of everyday life and concentrate on a specific writing project. There is no charge for the residencies, though attendees are asked for donations with a suggested minimum of $300/week to help keep the house and grounds in good repair and available for our writers for years to come. Applications are accepted year round. Residencies fill up quickly, so apply early.
