I’ve said it before, and I’m sure I’ll say it again: writing is an extraordinary and challenging and satisfying pursuit, but publishing is a business.
Once a writer decides to seek publication – through whatever avenue – that writer needs to start thinking like a business person, and a savvy business person at that. Put in the time and effort to know the business that you’re entering; read the fine print.
Because, sad to say, there are plenty of people out there willing to take advantage of a writer’s dreams. The blog Writer Beware reports that a class-action lawsuit now claims that PublishAmerica did just that.
