Deonna Kelli Sayed Expands Membership Coordinator Role

Deonna Kelli Sayed

You’ve seen her behind the registration tables at Fall and Spring Conferences; you’ve received encouraging e-mails from her; and maybe you’ve even talked with her on the phone and hung up feeling comforted.

Now, you’ll be able to do all that twice as much: the North Carolina Writers’ Network is thrilled to announce that Deonna Kelli Sayed will expand her hours as membership coordinator.

Deonna Kelli Sayed is an internationally published author, a storyteller, TEDx speaker, and an award-winning podcast producer. She is an interfaith dialogue instigator and a recovering ghost hunter.

She is the PEN America representative for the NC Piedmont area (Greensboro, Charlotte, Raleigh).

Deonna is the author of Paranormal Obsession: America’s Fascination with Ghosts & Hauntings, Spooks and Spirits. Her essays are included in Love, Inshallah: The Secret Love Lives of American Muslim Women and Faithfully Feminists: Jewish, Christian and Muslim Feminists on Why We Stay. Her short story is featured in the Press 53 anthology, Everywhere Stories: Short Fiction From a Small Planet.

Her personal essays appear at The Dirty Spoon, The Manifestation, AltMuslimah, and Patheos. Her podcast work for Yes!Weekly, OUT IN THE SOUTH, received state and national press awards (2017).

She is currently working on a memoir centered on her experiences with Muslim-Jewish dialogue, and how personal and political origin stories impact how we understand the world.

Deonna was the 2018-2019 Festival Coordinator for Greensboro Bound: A Literary Festival. She started with NCWN in her role in 2017.

“I value NC’s long literary heritage,” says Deonna, “and I look forward to strengthening the diverse literary community through the Network. I am excited to serve, and to learn from, the many wonderful writers throughout the state.”

As membership coordinator, Deonna will oversee bringing in new members and serving current members. If you have trouble with registration; have questions about donating to the Network; or want to learn more about new memberships, membership benefits, or cost; she’s the one to contact.

She can be reached 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday, at and 919-308-3228.
