Don’t forget that the 2008 Induction Ceremony for the NC Literary Hall of Fame will be this Sunday, October 19, at 2 p.m., at the Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities in Southern Pines. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
James Applewhite, William S. Powell, and Lee Smith are this year’s inductees. All three will be at the ceremony and the reception afterwards. J. Peder Zane of the Raleigh News & Observer will be the master of ceremonies, and Jill McCorkle, Jaki Shelton Green, and Rebecca Godwin are among those taking part in the induction.
That’s the good news. The bad news is you will have to listen to me talk, but I promise it will only be for a couple of minutes.
If you haven’t been to the Hall, or to Weymouth, you need to. A visit is a reminder of how much outstanding literature North Carolinians have produced. For a North Carolina, it’s both an inspiration and a challenge to write as well as you possibly can.
I hope to see a lot of Network members Sunday afternoon.
