We received an e-mail today from longtime friend and distinguished poet Jaki Shelton Green. We’re sharing it here in hopes that you’ll consider her request:
My family and friends are uniting to raise money to help me battle an undiagnosed chronic illness without health insurance.
The funds raised will be used for my medical costs. I do not have medical insurance of any kind.
My doctor anticipates that my medical bills will exceed $25,000 by the end of this year. So any amount you can send will help.
Since September 2011 my husband, Abdul Lateef, has been caring for me at home around the clock. During this entire time, which has included three lengthy hospitalizations, I’ve lived in severe pain over my entire body. This undiagnosed chronic illness has tremendously limited the use of my hands and is accompanied by uncontrollable muscle spams.
In March 2011, I was introduced to Dr. Sonia Rapaport, who specializes in undiagnosed chronic illnesses. Dr. Rapaport has been able to bring great relief and insight into my illness. The treatments are expensive. Your donation will make it possible for me to receive the medical care that I desperately need until I have fully recovered.
You can make a donation of any amount by clicking here.
