There’s a lot going on, now and in the weeks to come:
SPARKcon and poetrySPARK are back in the capital, kicking things off tonight with the NCWN Poetry Open Mic Night, hosted by Alice Osborn at Isaac Hunter’s Tavern.
The good folks at BiblioBuffet (including our beloved board president Nicki Leone) share their pick of websites dealing with copyright and plagiarism law in the age of the Internet. If you’re concerned about this topic, don’t forget that the 2010 Fall Conference will feature a workshop on Legal Issues for Writers, led by intellectual property attorney Dina Di Maio.
Speaking of the Fall Conference, our host city of Charlotte, faced with dramatic budget cuts to its public libraries, has responded in ways big and small. Two of Charlotte’s major institutions – Bank of America and the Carolina Panthers – have started a fundraising campaign for the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County, including donations by text message.
And when the library had to cancel its long-running (and very popular) Novello Festival of Reading, local writers and readers came together to start their own grassroots Novello Festival. “A Tribute to Novello” will take place October 1, 2, and 9, and will feature more than a few Network members, including John Grooms, Anthony Abbott, Mary Kratt, Alex Grant, Diana Pinckney, Judy Goldman, Aaron Gwyn, Eleanora Tate, Carole Boston Weatherford, Amy Rogers, and more.
(You might notice that many of these folks will also be at the Fall Conference.)
