New Novello Collection

Our good friends at Novello Festival Press (which is, according to the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County, “on hiatus” due to budget cuts) have given us one more gift before NFP departs.

Their new collection Topograph: New Writing from the Carolinas and the Landscape Beyond includes work by several Network members and friends, including Marjorie Hudson and Gilda Morina Syverson, two of the five finalists for the last Novello Literary Award.

Pam Kelley of the Charlotte Observer wrote a nice feature on the book and the press in Sunday’s paper.

Novello Festival Press published some outstanding work, including the debut novels of Tony Abbott, Dot Jackson, and that Ron Rash guy.  They also took me up on my offer to edit their anthology Sports in the Carolinas, but nobody’s perfect.  NFP’s Amy Rogers and Betsy Thorpe have been very generous to the Network, sharing their time and expertise for countless critique sessions and conference workshops.  Let’s hope the PLCMC gets Novello Festival Press up and running again as quickly as possible.
