What’s the Second-Best Reason to Come to Spring Conference?

Where else are you gonna find more than a hundred writers, teachers, and literary-minded folks hanging out together, inside, on a beautiful spring Saturday afternoon?

Sure, April might be a great time to go for a bike ride, see a ballgame, or spend time in your garden. But only by attending the North Carolina Writers’ Network 2012 Spring Conference will you be able to meet other writers from across the state and beyond; learn from an All-Star lineup of distinguished faculty; and chat up a bunch of editors and publishers and (most importantly) other people who love books as much as you.

Because let’s face it: most of the work of being a writer takes place in isolation, seated somewhere, in front of a blank screen or a blank sheet of paper, alone. But events such as the 2012 Spring Conference let us get away from the desk for a while and meet other people who are engaged in our same pursuit. And being around so many folks who do what we do—who love what we love—never fails to inspire. Sometimes, a day spent talking about books and writing can be the jumpstart we need to finish whatever project we’re working on—that short story, novel, poem, or play.

The NCWN 2012 Spring Conference will be held on Saturday, April 28 at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and offers workshops in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, children’s writing, and publishing. This year’s conference will also feature a Publishers Panel with book and journal editors; a Faculty Reading; an Open Mike reading for conference attendees; and “Lunch with an Author,” where attendees share lunch and personal conversation with faculty members.

Who needs the great outdoors? At least for one day, let’s get together and celebrate literature.
