If you have never attended a writer’s conference or wonder why you should attend this year, here are some answers to frequently asked questions about the conference. For further information, please click here.
Q: I’m interested in writing, but I don’t know if I am ready to attend a writer’s conference. Should I sign up?
A: All of the five sessions of classes (except Master Classes) are designed for all levels of writers, and participants speak of being much more energized about their writing after attending the Fall Conference.
Q: Â What is a Master Class?
A: A Master Class is for more experienced writers and is basically a short workshop. The Master Class registrant does have to send a manuscript, and the instructor will review the ten-page or five-page manuscripts before class. The genres for Master Classes are poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Click here for more information.
Q: If I want to be published, why can’t I just send my manuscript to a literary agent or editor?
A: Manuscript Mart at the Fall Conference offers the participants an invaluable opportunity—one-on-one meetings with an agent or editor. A Manuscript Mart appoinment not only can be instrumental in getting your work published, but the agent or editor can clarify a niche for the manuscript. Most likely, you will receive a lot more feedback from Manuscript Mart than by sending it to a literary agent or editor. There is also a publishing track of classes that a registrant can take. Click here for more information.
Q: What is the Critique Service?
A: The Critique Service at the Fall Conference is a little different than Manuscript Mart. If your manuscript is not ready for publication, you can have it reviewed by a writer who is an authority in a particular genre. With the Critique Service, you are getting an expert reader to review your work. Click here for more information.
Q:Â Why should I attend this year?
A: One of the treats of the 2009 Fall Conference will be the actual location—Wrightsville Beach! Just a few miles away from Wilmington, it is a charming beach near this larger city. Here are some pictures of  the conference hotel, Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort.
Once your walk through the lobby and get settled, you can enjoy the ocean view in these rocking chairs—
Fall Conference registrants can receive a discount if they reserve their hotel room by November 1. The code is W42 for Fall Conference registrants and the phone number is 877-330-5050. The Web site is www.wrightsville.sunspreeresorts.com. Hotel reservations are not included in conference registration.
