Manuscript Mart

NOTE: THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR THE MANUSCRIPT MART HAS PASSED.

Manuscript Mart provides writers with the opportunity to submit their manuscripts and get feedback from an editor or agent with a leading publisher or literary agency. A one-on-one, thirty-minute session will be scheduled for you, to take place on Saturday, November 7, sometime between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or on Sunday, November 8, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Please note, a Manuscript Mart session can lead directly to publication—but it probably won’t. Think of it, instead, as a learning opportunity, and you’ll get more out of it. A single sentence from one of these professionals can change the course of a writer’s career.

Manuscript Mart sessions are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. YOUR MANUSCRIPT MART REGISTRATION, INCLUDING MANUSCRIPT AND PAYMENT, MUST REACH THE NETWORK BY FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23.

Guidelines

1. You must register for the Fall Conference to register for the Manuscript Mart. Please register for the Manuscript Mart on the same form you use to register for the conference.

2. Manuscripts must be no more than 12 pages, double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman, with one-inch margins.

3. Manuscripts must be Word files (.doc, .docx), saved with a file name that includes your last name and at least part of the full work’s title (i.e., Wolfe_LookHomeward.docx)

4. Your Word file should include the first 12 double-spaced, single-sided, sequential pages of your fiction or nonfiction manuscript, preceded by a one-page query letter (for more information on query letters, please visit www.janefriedman.com/query-letters) and a one-page synopsis of the full manuscript.

5. Register for the Fall Conference and the Manuscript Mart using our online registration form, paying all associated fees with a VISA, MasterCard, or Discover.

6. Immediately after you submit your registration form and payment, send your Word file as an email attachment to mart@ncwriters.org. Your Manuscript Mart registration is not complete until we receive both your form and your properly formatted manuscript.

If we cannot offer you a spot in the Manuscript Mart, we will refund your fee.
