Scholarships
Limited general scholarship aid is available for the Spring Conference. To apply, send your current CV and a statement of writing intent—describing your background and goals as a writer—to ed@ncwriters.org.
In addition to our general scholarship aid, More Seats Scholarships are available to attend the Spring Conference thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor. More Seats Scholarships seek to add “more seats” to the literary table by encouraging beginning writers from underserved communities, especially writers from rural counties, writers of color, and LGBTQ+ writers. Selection criteria will focus on commitment to writing, rather than degrees or publications. To apply, send a current CV—with contact information and a list of any work, education, publications, or other relevant literary experiences or achievements—and a Statement of Writing Intent of no more than 1,000 words—to ed@ncwriters.org, no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, April 11. The subject line should specify the applicant’s interest in a More Seats Scholarship. Questions should be sent to that e-mail address, as well.
The Flatiron Writers Room Scholarship is available to attend the Spring Conference. This scholarship is awarded to a Western North Carolina writer of color. This scholarship will cover the cost of full conference registration, including all sessions and conference meals, plus a $100 stipend that the recipient can apply to hotel or travel costs. To apply, writers should send their current CV and a statement of writing intent—describing their background and goals as a writer—to NCWN Executive Director Ed Southern at ed@ncwriters.org no later than Friday, April 11. Preference will be given to applicants who reside in, or otherwise have a significant relationship to, one of North Carolina’s 19 western counties (Avery, Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Madison, Mitchell, Transylvania, Yancey, Burke, Cleveland, McDowell, Polk, Rutherfordton, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Jackson, Macon, and Swain). Any questions concerning the Flatiron Writers Room Scholarship should be sent to ed@ncwriters.org.
The Mary Belle Campbell Scholarships are open to applications from poets who teach full-time. For more information, please follow the link above, or e-mail ed@ncwriters.org.
The receipt deadline for all scholarship applications is Friday, April 11.
Cancellations & Refunds
Cancellations must be made in writing and arrive at the Network by 4 pm on Friday, April 25, 2025, for you to receive a refund of the registration fee, less 25%. No-shows or cancellations after April 25 are nonrefundable.
Manuscript Mart and Master Class fees are not refundable if you cancel. However, if we are unable to find a place for you in the Manuscript Mart, we will return your check(s) for related extra charge(s).
Master Class application fees are nonrefundable.
Send all refund requests to ed@ncwriters.org.
For Writers with Special Needs
The North Carolina Writers’ Network strives to make our programs and services accessible to all writers, including those with special needs. If you require conference materials either in large print or in braille, or if you require a sign language interpreter or mobility assistance, please register for the conference and submit your request to mail@ncwriters.org no later than April 18. If you require any other special assistance, please let us know as soon as possible at mail@ncwriters.org. We will do our best to accommodate all reasonable requests.
Registrant Directory
The registration form for the 2025 Spring Conference will ask registrants if they want to opt-in to a Registrant Directory. This directory will include first and last names and email addresses for all registrants who choose to be included, and will be shared with those registrants after the conference. Joining the Registrant Directory is not required, and the Network will not share the directory with those who do not choose to join.
E-Packets
In an effort to save money, time, and resources, the Network will send to all 2025 Spring Conference registrants, exhibitors, and faculty an E-Packet, prior to May 2. The E-Packet will contain all the usual conference packet materials and more, on dynamic, mobile-friendly webpages.
Name tags, personalized schedules, and copies of the Schedule-at-a-Glance still will be available at the registration table during the conference.
We will not provide traditional printed packets at this year’s Spring Conference.
